How do I measure granules and inhomogeneous samples?
What kind of probe head?
To measure granules or other inhomogeneous samples it is necessary to measure over a relative large area. ColorLite offers customers the adapter MA38 and MA80 to expand the measuring area of a normal probe head to 38 mm or 80 mm in diameter. This means the same device can be used for measuring solids such moulded plastics, as well as for measuring granules.
The probe head adapter is fitted with an array of high-powered LEDs to illuminate the samples, whereby a white barium sulphate coating is used to diffuse the light.
The adapter is available in a black plastic (polyoxymethylene) casing or in a stainless steel housing as a fixed probe head for online applications.
How?
The granules must be prepared for scanning in a special glass cuvette. The adapter is fixed to a stand. To prevent ambient light affecting the repeatability the black reference is used as a cover.
The granule sample colour must be scanned at least 5 times, whereby the sample has to be taken new for each scan.
The measurement is then started by pressing the enter key on the spectrophotometer or from the PC software ColorDaTra Professional.
